She's Walking!!

Just as we’d begun to wonder if it would ever happen, Ailah got up onto her feet on Friday and took off. Not that she hadn’t taken a few steps here and there, but this time it was serious walking. She took a lot of breaks, some intentional, some unintentional, but she didn’t give up. And after lots of practicing over the last two days, she is walking the length of the house without falling. I took tons of video on my digital camera yesterday, only to find when I downloaded it that it had been on compact mode, making for really rotten videos. Sad. But today I got one that is a keeper. We’re so excited!

Last Sunday Ailah met her social worker for the first time when we had our first post-placement visit. Myra felt that Ailah was doing just fine and that adjustments seem to be going well for the whole family. We agree! The girls still have some rough patches, seldom playing together and not always wanting to accept that the other is permanent. But mostly peace reigns and we see sparks that one day they will enjoy each other’s company.

We are enjoying the beautiful Colorado spring weather this weekend. It is a bright, sunny, warm day outside, the flowers are blooming and the grass is turning green. I love this time of year. And Ailah is walking just in time to play outside this summer with Mara. Life is good.
